The team at Try Tag Rugby would like to wish all players, sponsors, partners, supporters & friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We would like to thank you for all your support in 2011 and we look forward to seeing you again soon in 2012!
We now look back at the year that was - 2011.
This year has been the biggest year for Tag Rugby in London to date, peaking at 91 teams across the capital in the Early Summer season.
2012 is anticipated to break all records for Tag Rugby participation across the capital with new competitions set to commence at new venues such as Blackheath, Reading, Southfields, West Ham and White City.
To relive all the fantastic memories this year, the team at Try Tag Rugby have produced a special 2011 year in review video, which can be viewed below.
The first representative fixture for 2011 (6March) was when London NSW took on London QLD to help raise money for the Queensland Flood Appeal at the Southern Hemisphere Charity Day. The Blues (London New South Wales) were victorious 15-8 on this occasion.
On 27 March, Finished Roving Your Mum was victorious at the Harlequins RL Tag Rugby Festival in which the team won a corporate box to the Harlequins RL Vs Hull FC Engage Super League fixture.
18 June saw London Australia take out the Try Tag Rugby International Cup tournament at Osterley in the Men’s and Mixed divisions. This was in preparation for the inaugural Oztag Australia tour to the UK (16-17 July) when the London Residents (the best Tag Rugby players in London regardless of nationality), the Mixed English and the Men’s Open and Over 30’s Great Britain and Ireland teams came up against the touring team.
Oztag Australia managed to clean sweep the series with the London Residents Mixed squad managing the closest score line against the world champions, going down 7-2 in the first match of the tour. Despite the losses there were many positive signs which bodes well for the future in particular the Tag Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 2012.
The Try Tag Rugby All-Stars won at all three touring destinations in 2011, being Rochdale, Bruff (Ireland) and Malta, with D.T.F of the Balham competition reigning supreme by taking out the 2011 GOAL London Tag Rugby Championships.
South London managed to take out the London Tag Rugby Origin series with two defeats over North London and at the final International Cup tournament of 2011 (12 Nov), London Barbarians (Mixed), London Australia (Men’s) & London New Zealand (Mixed Social) all claimed silverware.
Congratulations to the following winners in 2011!
