Try Tag Rugby to Launch in Manchester
Try Tag Rugby (TTR) will launch into a new region this May with the launch of Try Tag Rugby Manchester.
Try Tag Rugby, the Rugby Football League’s (RFL) Tag Rugby League partner, is the UK delegate of the European Tag Federation and the International Tag Federation (ITF) and currently operates in London, Thames Valley and Yorkshire.
Tag Rugby is a fun and exciting non-contact social sport suitable for adults, no previous rugby experience is necessary, it’s a sport that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike.
The Manchester region will launch by starting with a single league in Manchester with plans to add further leagues in the future.
The Manchester league is being set up in conjunction with Mancunians RL. Mancunians is a rugby league and sports club fielding several rugby and handball teams across the city at various age groups. The club is a Sports Club Community Mutual and carries out development work across the city of Manchester.
The new league will be based at Mancunians home base of Hough End Police Club and launch on Tuesday 2nd May. The Mancunians RL ground is just 10 minutes from Manchester City Centre with several tram and bus routes servicing the area. Tag Rugby is a very social sport and a great way to meet new people as well as a chance to meet up with existing friends. The Club’s onsite bar and beer garden will be an ideal location during the summer months for hosting the traditional Try Tag Rugby weekly post-match social, where players come together to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat with their team mates and opposition.
Try Tag Rugby Area Manager Carl Duckels said: “We’re delighted to be launching a league in Manchester. We receive a high number of enquiries from the region and been working hard to find the right venue. The exciting partnership with Mancunians will enable us to use their fantastic venue at Hough End whilst allowing us to tap into some of the great work they already do and their experience in the region.”

What is Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby is a minimal contact team game in which each player wears shorts with velcro patches with two tags attached to them. The mode of play is similar to Rugby League or Touch Rugby with attacking players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball while defenders attempt to prevent them scoring by "tagging" - pulling a velcro attached tag from the ball carrier. Seven players in each team are allowed on the field at a time, whilst the field dimensions are 70m by 50m. The attacking team has six plays or tags to try to score a try or take the ball down field as close to the line as possible. Tries are worth one point and there are no conversions. In mixed Tag Rugby, female tries are worth two points.
