Try Tag Rugby see rise in player numbers
Try Tag Rugby has seen an increase in player numbers for the early summer season of almost 20% compared to the same period last year.
This year Try Tag Rugby expanded into Manchester for the first time, while Yorkshire has also seen several new leagues starting in Bradford, Wakefield and Cross Gates in East Leeds. While the Thames Valley has moved to a second night of the week.
The London region also has several new venues which are being used for the first time including Brixton, Canary Wharf, Regent’s Park and Clapham Junction, while other venues are running on more nights each week to keep up with demand.
The increase to 593 teams from 507 last year represents Try Tag Rugby’s biggest ever season across London, Thames Valley, Yorkshire and Manchester, and sees over 1000 new players taking part in Tag Rugby on a weekly basis.
Try Tag Rugby CEO Phillip Browne said: "For a sport (Oztag) that didn't exist in the UK back in 2008, to grow by over 1,000 players from the 2016 to 2017 Early Summer seasons is a fantastic achievement and one that every member of the Try Tag Rugby staff and community can be proud of.
"We would just like to thank all of our hard-working staff and referees who helped make this increase possible and of course to all the players who enjoy our leagues and keep coming back to play the sport.
"Tag Rugby is a very inclusive sport that caters for beginners right up to the International level depending on how social or serious you want to take it, and we have leagues for mixed, men's and ladies so it's a great way to get people into Rugby, especially females.
"We now run leagues seven days-a-week in London, allowing players plenty of options to choose their preferred days and venues. We're extremely proud to have 593 teams playing Tag Rugby on a weekly basis for our Early Summer season (May/June) across London, Manchester, Thames Valley and Yorkshire with hopefully more regions added for next year."
