The Chargers, who hold the 2012 Pig N Porter Tag Rugby Festival trophy, have added another to their collection by taking out the inaugural Wasps Tag Rugby Festival on Saturday (13th October) at Twyford Avenue Sports Ground in Acton.

The Chargers defeated some powerhouse London Tag Rugby teams such as Phibbers (10-2), Tumeke (7-4) and Westside Hoodlums (15-1) to earn a place in the final.

They were due to meet the United Collaboration of London Tag’s Finest who featured a host of representative players such as London Australia’s Martin Ams and Thomas Parsons as well as Great Britain & Ireland’s Stephen Barry and London Ireland’s Rachel Chew.

In a spectacular final that had it all, the scores were locked at 4-4 at halftime. The Chargers managed to come home strong in the second stanza and defeat the United Collaboration of London Tag’s Finest 8-6 with the Chargers’ Shelley Niven being awarded the player of the final.

In the Plate Divison final, Tags McGee defeated Phibbers with a last minute try to seal a 6-5 triumph in a nail biter. In the Social Division final, Must Tag Sally was too strong for TagerBomb with a 6-4 victory.

The weather gods smiling on the London tag rugby community, granting a cool sunny day with little wind. The conditions were perfect for tag rugby and all teams enjoyed a great day of action followed by the presentation and an after party at the nearby Chatsworth Pub.

Photos from the inaugural Wasps Tag Rugby Festival can be found in the Try Tag Rugby Facebook group, found here. Feel free to join the group and tag yourselves and your team mates in the photos.

Wasps Tag Rugby Festival Registrations Now Open! - Article 11/09/12

Registrations for Try Tag Rugby's last one day festival for the year for weekly teams is now open. The Wasps Tag Rugby Festival will be held on Saturday, 13th October at one of our top venues, Twyford Avenue Sports Ground (Acton); home of Wasps FC. The day will include a round robin Tag Rugby tournament with great prizes to give away and a legendary after party at one of West London's best pubs, The Chatsworth!

Twyford Avenue Sports Ground is one of Try Tag Rugby's top venues with state of the art facilities such as well maintained grass Rugby pitches, showers, toilets and an onsite bar for snacks and refreshments. With this venue hosting the Acton Autumn competition, home ground teams won't want to lose this festival to any challengers from across London/Reading.

There will be Mixed A grade and Mixed Social grade divisions to cater for varying standards. The Wasps Tag Rugby Festival will kick off at 12pm and conclude at 5pm. All matches will be played as 7 a side with 4 males & 3 females on the pitch.

This festival will bring together all the teams from West London and beyond to Acton for a round robin tournament with every team getting a minimum of 90 minutes game time! Tumeke the champion team from Acton over the summer and current winners of the 2012 London Tag Rugby Championships in West Ham on 18th August will have home ground advantage and start as favourites for the Mixed A grade competition.

The Cyborg Sharpshooters from Reading were the top UK based team at the 2012 London Tag Rugby Championships for the Mixed Social division and would have to start as favourites should they enter this division.

This is a great opportunity to get your teams back playing on grass for the last time for the year before all Early Winter competitions divert back to 3G or astroturf surfaces.

The presentation will commence at 6pm at the Wasps FC's onsite bar with the after party starting not long after, which will be held at the nearby Chatsworth Pub.

Teams from all over London and abroad are welcome to enter this festival, to sample one of the top Tag Rugby venues around. This will be the inaugural Wasps Tag Rugby Festival so who will claim the first ever title and become the best in the west?
