Background

North London Tag Rugby
The North London Tag Rugby competition kicks off its 3rd year at Finsbury Park. 2010 has been the biggest year yet, with 16 teams taking to the pitch in summer across the men’s and mixed competitions. The Finsbury Park mixed competition A grade is the highest standard mixed Tag Rugby league in London.

Summer competition takes place at the south end of Finsbury Park in the strip of land parallel to Seven Sisters Rd with autumn comps moving into the Athletics stadium near Manor House tube. The mixed competition features both a social and A grade, allowing teams and individuals to compete at suitable levels of competition.

As always, half the fun of playing Tag Rugby at Finsbury Park comes away from the pitch. The fantastic Faltering Fullback Pub on Perth Road is always full to over flowing on match evenings as players return to recount their glories on the Tag Rugby field. This Irish owned pub with arguably London’s best beer garden is an oasis in bustling Finsbury Park. When not behind the bar publican Pat Fitzsimmons can often be found on the Tag Rugby pitch.

Finsbury Park features a busy over ground station servicing many parts of North London. Finsbury Park is also on the Victoria and Piccadilly lines being only an 11 minute tube ride away from Oxford Circus in Central London.

Faltering Fullback

North West London Tag Rugby
Tag Rugby in the Borough of Brent kicked off on February 4th when 4 mixed teams took the Astroturf at Cardinal Hinsley School near Willesden Junction. Played in the 6 a side format under floodlights, Tag Rugby will return again to Cardinal Hinsley this autumn and winter. Throughout the season drinks take place at the nearby Misty Moon pub where teams mingled freely in this large pub at Willesden Junction.

In summer Tag Rugby in Brent is played at the lovely Gladstone Park.  The inaugural Gladstone Park Mixed Tag Rugby crown was taken out one of the strongest Tag rugby teams in London, Ref's Fault. Gladstone Park is only a short stroll from both Dollis Hill and Willesden Green stations on the Jubilee Line. Post match social drinks took place at the nearby Number 8 pub throughout the season.

South East London Tag Rugby
In mid March, Tag Rugby kicked off in Bermondsey on the impressive floodlit Astroturf pitch at City of London Accademy at Bermondsey. The venue at the City of London Academy is only a 10 minute walk from Bermondsey Station on the Jubilee Line and South Bermondsey Rail Station. With Bermondsey being only 2 tube stops from Canary Wharf this upcoming Thursday night autumn competition is a great option to fit in a run around on the commute home. The venue is also only a short bus ride from Elephant & Castle tube station on the Northern and Bakerloo lines.

Nearby at Rotherhithe, Wednesday night Tag Rugby will commennce in September. This floodlit Astroturf venue also featuring excellent facilities is a short stroll from Canada Water station on the Jubilee Line or Rotherhithe station on the East London line.

In summer mixed Tag Rugby kicked off nearby at Southwark Park with a capacity 12 teams taking to the field in the late summer league. Given the popularity of this league, the late summer competition was split into an A grade and social grade.

South London Tag Rugby
Another highly popular league takes place at Tooting Bec Common in South London. The area of Tooting Bec Common where games are played is only a five minute walk from Balham tube and rail station. Balham tube station is only 2 stops from Clapham Common on the Northern Line and two stops from Clapham Junction using national rail.

In Autumn a new league will begin on Sundays, giving players an opportunity to continue playing Tag Rugby at this popular venue.

South West London Tag Rugby
In early summer Tag Rugby debuted in south west London at King George's Park. With a large number of Rugby Clubs in the area, a strong tradition of Touch Rugby at King Georges Park and an area over flowing with former Oztag and Kiwitag players, the Wandsworth Tag Rugby crown is highly sought after. Trip & Chase won the early summer league defeating minor premiers Tagger Through the Heart in the final.

Like in all London sports clubs, socialising is very high on the agenda at the Wandsworth Tag Rugby venue with players regularly returning to GJ's for a free post match platter of food.  King George's Park is very centrally located in Southwest London, with the fields being a short stroll from Wandsworth Town rail station, Earlsfield rail station and both East Putney and Southfields tube stations on the district line.

There is no autumn league in South West London due to a shortage of facilities. Players are recommended to travel to either Tooting Bec on a Sunday or play at either of Bermondsey or Rotherhithe on week nights.
