2012 Try Tag Rugby Corporate Challenge - Review

On Friday, 25th May Try Tag Rugby successfully held it's inaugural Corporate Challenge in Central London’s Iconic Regents Park. Ten teams (including 2 from Pcubed) battled it out across three divisions to determine who would be clutching a trophy and laying claim to being London’s best Corporate Tag Rugby Team of 2012 when going into work the following Monday.

Yahoo vs Google

Although there were a few familiar faces within some of the teams it was great to see so many new faces playing Tag Rugby for the first time!

With the exception of a strong wind, the conditions were near perfect for playing Tag Rugby – the sun was beating down and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Given the number of new players the standard of play was remarkably high across all three divisions and this kept the watching colleagues, friends and passers-by highly entertained throughout!

The competition was held in two stages, a group stage and a graded finals stage ensuring all teams played the majority of their games against teams of a similar standard. The big game of the group stages was the highly anticipated clash between the two internet giants Google and Yahoo! with the eventual A Grade runners up Google coming out on top in what was a good spirited game.

Tullett Prebon and Goodman Masson were the early front runners in the group stages, both getting through to the Graded Finals undefeated.  The draw for the A Grade semi finals saw these records put on the line as both teams came head to head.  With the final awaiting, Tullett Prebon managed to maintain their undefeated tag and progress to the final where they managed to overcome Google 4 – 0 in a tight low scoring affair.

After the competition all the teams transferred to the nearby Sports Bar & Grill for the awards ceremony plus some well deserved food and drinks!  A full schedule of the competition results and prizes awarded is included below.

Photos of the competition were captured by Neal Houghton and these are available by clicking here.
