Join us in the Toon for our first ever TagFest Newcastle!

We can’t wait to welcome up to 24 mixed teams from Newcastle and across the UK to enjoy not just some Tag Rugby, but what our brilliant city has to offer too!

TagFest Newcastle 2025 will be held at the impressive Cochrane Park, home to Newcastle University Sport. This fantastic facility is close to the city centre by public transport, with onsite changing facilities, parking, onsite bar and a nearby supermarket available.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Capacity for 24 mixed Tag Rugby teams .
  • ‘Charity Shop Find’ Fancy Dress theme. Tag away in your 2nd-hand Glow up! (Obviously still wear your Tag Shorts and don’t obstruct them!)
  • 90 minutes of game time.
  • All standards are welcome, with pool stages followed by divisions.
  • Travelling teams from around the UK.
  • The best teams of the day playing for the inaugural Geordie Cup in front of the big crowd.
  • Newcastle styled TTR Shorts and Tights on sale, exclusive to the event.
  • A ‘belta’ night at the official after party in Newcastle City Centre.

TAG RUGBY FORMAT

  • Maximum of 12 players per squad, maximum 4 male players on the pitch at any one time.
  • All players must be registered for insurance purposes.
  • Players must be 18 or over to participate in the tournament and/or attend the after party.
  • Teams will be seeded based on submitted squads. Squads must be complete by midday on 26th June.
  • Seeding is done at the discretion of Try Tag Rugby, incomplete squads may result in higher seeding than expected.
  • Consumption of alcohol is prohibited until the tournament has concluded. All alcohol must be purchased on site.

PRESENTATION & AFTER PARTY

On completion of the finals, the presentation will take place at Cochrane Park before the after party kicks-off for all players. We’re excited to launch our venue and After Party which will be right in the heart of the city! Details will follow very soon – watch this space!

VENUE

The 2025 tournament will take place at Cochrane Park, Etherstone Avenue, Newcastle UponTyne, NE7 7JX. Games will be played on both grass and 5G. Trainers and Moulded boots can be worn on both the grass and 5G. This is in the Heaton area of Newcastle and close to the City Centre via public transport and car. The venue has ample on-site free parking and is 11 minutes away from the A1 and 5 minutes from the A19. Cars can be left at the venue overnight, the carpark will be locked and re-open again at 9.00am on the following morning (6th July)

Full female and male changing facilities, including showers, are available on site for use before, during and after the tournament – particularly important for getting yourself changed into your after party outfit once the games are finished. Please note, dogs are not permitted at this venue unless required for assistance.

ON THE DAY

Fixtures for the day are scheduled to take place between 11am and 5pm with exact timings to be confirmed once seeding is complete. All teams and players will be required to arrive at the venue in order to register at least one hour before kick off. Exact registration opening times will be confirmed in the welcome email. The winners’ presentations and drinks will take place after the finals with the official after-party taking place in Newcastle City Centre, venue TBC, until late.

PLAYING KIT

ITF approved Tag Rugby shorts or tights are compulsory, available via card at our shop on the day, we’ll be selling our new Newcastle themed Tag Rugby shorts and tights too! A limited number of shorts will also be available to hire on the day for £5.

STANDARD

Teams are going to play in a round robin format in multiple groups before being split into divisions.

REGISTRATION

Team registration is available at the cost of £240 for squads of 12.

Individuals can register for £26. If registering as an individual we’ll add you to a team or create a team of other individuals.

If you have a group of friends and want to play together but you don’t have enough for a team, please sign up as individuals and contact us by email (newcastle@trytagrugby.com) with the players’ names who wish to be placed on a team together.

The registration deadline for the event is 12 midday on Thursday 26th June unless the event sells out earlier.
