Richmond Athletic Ground, Twickenham Rd, Richmond TW9 2SF

Try Tag Rugby turns 15 in 2024! Alongside our traditional River Thames Boat Party we want to do something extra special to celebrate the 15 years we have spent growing with our community in London and across the country.

To do this in style we’re breaking down the game we know and love, evolving the fundamentals and supercharging the on-pitch product for one night only! Five new rules will see a new form of tag invigorate teams whether they’ve played with us for 15 years or 15 weeks!

Five rules changes for knockout tag:

  1. Five players per side with no subs
  2. Five minute games with winners in every match
  3. Super player on each team who scores double points
  4. Bonus boxes in the corner of each tryline
  5. Immediate tap 10 restarts following tries

TTR’s 15th Birthday Tournament will utilise a knockout format:

  • Round 1: Winners progress to the Cup, losers to the Bowl
  • Round 2
    • Cup: Winners progress to the Cup QFs, losers to the Plate QFs
    • Bowl: Winners progress to the Bowl QFs, losers to the Shield QFs
  • Quarter Finals
    • Cup: Winners progress to the Cup SFs, losers are knocked out
    • Plate: Winners progress to the Plate SFs, losers are knocked out
    • Bowl: Winners progress to the Bowl SFs, losers are knocked out
    • Shield: Winners progress to the Shield SFs, losers are knocked out
  • Semi Finals
    • Cup: Winners progress to the Cup GF, losers are knocked out
    • Plate: Winners progress to the Plate GF, losers are knocked out
    • Bowl: Winners progress to the Bowl GF, losers are knocked out
    • Shield: Winners progress to the Shield GF, losers are knocked out

All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of three games with the teams reaching the four Grand Finals playing five matches. As soon as teams are knocked out their players will be handed five drinks tokens to spend at one of the three onsite bars.

  • Maximum of 5 players per team (no subs) and a maximum of 3 male players on the pitch at any one time
  • Players from eliminated teams may wait in a holding area to see if teams in the next game slot need them as injury replacements
  • As the tournament begins in an open format there are no international cap player limits
  • All players must be registered for insurance purposes
  • Teams will be seeded based on submitted squads. Squads must be complete by Wednesday 19th August
  • Seeding is done at the discretion of Try Tag Rugby, incomplete squads may result in higher seeding than expected
  • Consumption of alcohol by players is prohibited until your team has been eliminated

To celebrate the 15 years that our community has grown together, we will be launching the Try Tag Rugby Hall of Fame. Over the coming months TTR will accept nominations for the Hall of Fame and will then consult with key figures within our community to decide on our first set of inductees who will be announced at the tournament.

On completion of the finals, the presentation will take place on the main stage before the after party kicks-off for all players with a DJ set in the grandstand, multiple bars and food options, followed by a dance area in the clubhouse until midnight.

After Party & Spectator Tickets
TTR’s 15th Birthday Knockout is a fully ticketed event. With plenty of entertainment on and off the field, we would encourage friends & family of those participating to come along for the evening to take in the flavour of the event.

Combined after-party and spectator tickets will shortly be available on the Try Tag Rugby shop for £7.50, before increasing to £10 on the gate at the event itself.

Spread the word with friends and family so that they don’t miss out on the fun!

Try Tag Rugby are excited to continue their partnership with the popular host venue of TagFest London. The 15th Birthday Knockout will take place at Richmond Athletic Ground, Twickenham Rd, Richmond TW9 2SF, just a ten minute walk from Richmond train station. The venue is also just off the M3 and M4 for travelling teams wishing to drive, however we’d encourage all attendees to arrive by public transport where possible.

Full female and male changing facilities are available on site for use before, during and after the tournament – particularly important for getting yourself changed into your after party outfit once the games are finished. Please note, dogs are not permitted at this venue unless required for assistance.

Fixtures for the day are scheduled to take place between 6:00pm and 8:30pm with exact timings to be confirmed once seeding is complete. The official after party will begin as soon as the first teams are eliminated with the winners’ presentation following the Cup Grand Final with the after party then continuing until midnight.

Three food vendors will be on-site throughout the evening’s play and into the night providing a variety of culinary options for teams and spectators while three bars will keep the drinks following during the biggest birthday party of the year!

ITF approved Tag Rugby shorts or tights are strictly compulsory, available from the Try Tag Rugby shop in advance or via card on the day. Details on ITF Approved (Tag Rugby) Shorts / Details on Kit Items not Permitted. Shorts will also be available to hire on the day.

We will have an extensive merchandise shop available at the event, showcasing new and popular lines of shorts, tights, balls and more.

Team registration is available at the cost of £100 for squads of 5.
