York Summer Tournament 2025

Join us at Heworth Amateur Rugby League Club, York, for our inaugural Summer Tournament!

Our first ever tournament is being held on the Summer solstice, the longest day of the year! Did you know that York is home to England’s shortest street (with a disproportionately long name) “Whip Ma Whop Ma Gate”. Blink and you will miss it, but hopefully you won’t miss our first ever York Summer Tournament!

WHAT TO EXPECT

• 90 minutes of game time.
• Pool stages followed by divisions.
• Clubhouse with Food and Bar available.
• After Tournament Social at Heworth Rugby Club.
• Fancy Dress Theme (TBC).
• Awards for fair play, best fancy dress and other individual and team awards.
• Travelling teams from around the UK.

TAG RUGBY FORMAT

• Maximum of 12 players per squad, maximum 4 male players on the pitch at any one time.
• Try Tag Rugby’s standard rules apply, games will be 7-a-side.
• All players must be registered for insurance purposes.
• Players must be 18 or over to participate in the tournament and/or attend the after party.
• Teams will be seeded based on submitted squads. Squads must be complete by midday on 10th June 2025.
• Seeding is done at the discretion of Try Tag Rugby, incomplete squads may result in higher seeding than expected.
• Consumption of alcohol is prohibited until the tournament has concluded.
• All Teams can have no more than four internationally capped players per squad.

PRESENTATION & AFTER PARTY

On completion of the finals, the Tournament presentation will take place; with the after party social kicking off from 6pm for all players outside the Heworth Club House.

VENUE

The 2025 tournament will take place at Heworth Rugby League Club, just a fifteen minute drive from York train station. The venue is also just off A1036, or Stockton Ln for travelling teams wishing to drive, however we’d strongly encourage all attendees to arrive by public transport where possible or carpool together where possible.

Full female and male changing facilities are available on site for use before, during and after the tournament – particularly important for getting yourself changed into your after party outfit once the games are finished. Dogs are permitted at this venue but please keep them on a lead everywhere other than the overflow field.

ON THE DAY

All teams and players will be required to arrive at the venue in order to register at least one hour before kick off with the games scheduled to take place between 11am and 5pm. Exact registration opening times will be confirmed in the welcome email. The winners’ presentation will follow the Cup Grand Final.

FOOD & DRINK

The clubhouse will provide food and drink throughout the day. All alcohol must be purchased on site.

PLAYING KIT

ITF approved Tag Rugby shorts or tights are compulsory, available via card at our shop on the day. A limited number of shorts will also be available to hire on the day for £5.

STANDARD

• Teams will play in a round robin format in multiple groups before being split into divisions.

REGISTRATION

Team registration is available at the cost of £230 for squads of 12.

Individuals can register for £26. If registering as an individual we’ll add you to a team or create a team of other individuals.

If you have a group of friends and want to play together but you don’t have enough for a team, please sign up as individuals and contact us by email (york@trytagrugby.com) with the players’ names who wish to be placed on a team together.

The registration deadline for the event is 12pm midday on Tuesday 10th June unless the event sells out earlier.
