The inaugural Try Tag Rugby Vets league has concluded, marking a triumphant blend of on-field action and post-match camaraderie!

With nearly 40 registered players aged 40 to 66, including three players in their 60s and ten in their 50s, Season One showed there is strong interest for stand alone leagues for older players throughout the Try Tag Rugby community.

Season One Review

Season One was a great ride, culminating in a Grand Final where Magenta Magnets secured victory, edging out the formidable Age Against the Machine in a closely contested battle. The final standings were as follows:

  3. Geritagtrics
  4. Teal Toucans

Season Two: Open for Registration

The anticipation is over! We’re excited to announce the commencement of Season Two of the London Vets League, set to kick off at Paddington Rec from 19th January. Mark your calendars for Free Taster Session on Friday 8th December & Friday 12th January, a perfect opportunity to experience the excitement firsthand.

Registration is again only available for individuals, rather than whole teams. Teams will be picked randomly using a champions league style draw, with different pots for ability and age, achieving an even greater spread of talent.

Joining the Ranks: Women aged 37 and Over

Responding to the enthusiasm for increased female participation, Season Two warmly welcomes women aged 37 and over to join the London Vets League. This inclusive change opens up new possibilities, fostering a dynamic and diverse Vets Tag Rugby community.

Format & Rules

  • 7-a-side
  • Age range – Men 40-70, Women 37-70.
  • All men must have turned 40 before the first round of the season, and all women must have turned 37.
  • Gender – Open – No restrictions or gender breakdown of players.
  • Tries are worth one point.
  • Bonus points awarded for tries scored by women, two points for those over 50, and three points for those over 60.
  • Age cut-offs for over 50s & 60s are the first round of the season.
  • Over 50s and over 60s to be identified by colored wristbands at the venue.
  • Free Taster Sessions – 08/12 & 12/01
  • Fixture Dates – 19/01, 26/01, 09/02, 16/02, 23/02, 08/03, 15/03, 22/03, 05/04 or 12/04 (TBC) & 19/04.
