TagFest London 2023 took place on Saturday 10th June with stunning weather setting the summer vibes for the day. Returning to Richmond Athletic Ground for the first time since 2021, 90 teams from across Britain and Ireland competed for medals over four separate divisions.
The champions of this year’s London Spring Tournament, Cuzzies, returned to the TagFest final having come up just short against Turtles a year ago. This time their opposition was a combined Tagkeshi’s Turtles team which ensured the match-up was stacked with international players on both sides. The last three TagFest London Division 1 Grand Finals have all gone to drop-off in the search for a winner but Cuzzies were in no mood to be restrained and ultimately managed to keep a clean sheet in their emphatic 4-0 triumph!
A healthy crowd cheered on both teams before turning their attention to the rugby league match involving West Warriors and London Chargers, a first for TagFest London. West Warriors, a team with strong links to tag rugby prevailed over their local rivals and then joined the tag community for the official tournament after party. Attendees crowded round the main stage for two sets by cover band The Dukes and music late into the night from DJ Astech while Richmond’s multiple bars kept everyone’s drinks full and cold!
The Division 2 champions were Gotchas who beat one of the tournament individuals’ teams, Richmond Globetrotters, in their final. Division 3 was won by I am the Lord of the tag said he with the Salads taking out Division 4.
