The UK Tag Nationals brings together the best players from different Try Tag Rugby regions to compete for the title of national champion in one of five categories.

Selections were made by regional coaches in December 2023 with the final tournament teams confirmed in March 2024.

The UK Tag Nationals takes place on Saturday 11th May 2024 at the University of Warwick. The pitches can be found at Cryfield Sports Pavilion, Leighfield Road, Coventry, CV4 7AL.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
There are 15 Mixed Open teams, split into three pools of five. Following the conclusion of the round robin pool stage each pool winner, runner-up and the best two third placed teams will advance to the Quarter Finals. The remaining teams will play a round robin to determine positions 9-15.

There are 13 Women’s Open teams, split into one pool of five and two pools of four. Following the conclusion of the round robin pool stage each pool winner, runner-up and the best two third placed teams will advance to the Quarter Finals. The remaining teams will play a round robin to determine positions 9-13.

There are 14 Men’s Open teams, split into two pools of five and one pool of four. Following the conclusion of the round robin pool stage each pool winner, runner-up and the best two third placed teams will advance to the Quarter Finals. The remaining teams will play a round robin to determine positions 9-14.

Each of the three Open categories includes an invitational team from Cork.

There are 9 teams in each of the Women’s 33s and Men’s 38s. Both categories are split into one pool of five and one pool of four. Following the conclusion of the round robin pool stage the top eight teams will be seeded into Quarter Final match-ups with the ninth placed team having a bye. The winners of the Quarter Finals will progress to the Semi Finals. The fifth and sixth ranked Quarter Final losers will play off for 5th place while the remaining teams will play a round robin to determine positions 7-9.

All teams will play six or seven matches (120-140 minutes) through the day with the following exception: the fifth and sixth ranked Quarter Final losers in the Women’s 33s and Men’s 38s will play a total of five games (100 minutes) if they started in the pool of four; teams in the five team Women’s Open pool that fail to make the Quarter Finals will play a total of eight games (140 minutes).

All matches will be 20 minutes and centrally timed except for the Women’s Open 9-13th round robin which will have 15 minute matches in order to even out game time.
Matches will be played according to the International Tag Federation’s 2022 Rulebook. Players must play in their 2023/24 UK Tag Nationals kit and advise their Regional Manager
of any jersey number changes in advance. The full rules and regulations will be shared with all teams in a separate document.

VENUE
The surface at the University of Warwick is grass.

There will be toilets and drinking water available at Cryfield Sports Pavilion as well as full changing and shower facilities. Valuables should not be left in the changing rooms. Please bring reusable water bottles and remember sunscreen and a hat.

Spectators are welcome to attend. No entrance fee will be charged for this event and spectators may come and go as they like as well as make full use of the facilities and food vendors. They are also welcome to attend the after party.

Please note dogs are not allowed at this venue unless required for assistance. This applies to players, spectators and after party guests.

FOOD, DRINK AND AFTER PARTY
Lunch options will be available from Lil Watan and Aroma from 12:00 and through to the close of play.
Varsity Pub will be open to players and spectators from 17:00 with the Winners’ Presentation taking place there at 20:00. They will have a full menu of food and drink options for all after party attendees with the bar serving until midnight. The after party will be a great opportunity for you to share a drink with players from all regions as well as your own teammates.

Parking is available at the after party venue.

Parking and Transport:
Parking is available at the venue but teams should make an effort to arrive by minibus or coach or make use of public transport. Coventry train station is a 24 minute bus or 10 minute drive from the ground.
