Try Tag Rugby is coming to Nottingham, with Free Taster Sessions taking place ahead of the first social league, which starts on Wednesday 27th May.
Try Tag Rugby, one of the UK’s fastest growing adult social sports, is bringing the game to the city for the first time, with its opening league taking place at Nottingham Moderns RFC in Wilford, an accessible venue just minutes from the city centre.
The seven-week league will run on Wednesday evenings and is designed to be a simple and enjoyable way to stay active after work. The venue is located around a 15 to 20 minute walk from Nottingham railway station, a short bike ride or around a 10 minute drive, making it an easy option for players across the city.
Ahead of the launch, a series of Free Taster Sessions will take place on 6th May, 13th May and 16th May, giving people the chance to give it a try in a relaxed and welcoming environment before committing to a league.
Whether you’ve played before or are completely new, the sessions are designed to be fun, welcoming and a great way to get started.
Tag Rugby is a minimal-contact, mixed-gender team sport that is easy to learn and open to all abilities. Most players join as complete beginners, and individuals can sign up on their own and be placed into a team, making it simple to get involved.
The Nottingham league will also have a strong social side, with post-match socials taking place on site each week, giving players the chance to meet new people and build friendships alongside playing.
The new Nottingham franchise will be run by Patrick Alexander, who first came across Try Tag Rugby online before making the trip to Sheffield to see a league in action for himself.
Patrick said:
“After seeing a league in Sheffield first hand, it was clear there was an opportunity to bring something similar to Nottingham. What stood out was how inclusive, fun, and social it was, with people of all abilities playing together, many trying it for the first time.
Nottingham has a strong sporting culture, but there’s a real gap for accessible, social formats like this. It’s a great way for people to stay active, meet others and be part of a community without needing any previous experience.”
Carl Duckels, National Franchising Director at Try Tag Rugby, said:
“Nottingham is a brilliant fit for Try Tag Rugby. It’s a city with a large young professional population and a great social scene. With Patrick leading the way, we’re excited to see a welcoming and inclusive community develop here.”
Last summer, roughly 11,000 people played weekly across 33 Try Tag Rugby locations nationwide, with more than 40% female participation, highlighting its appeal as a mixed and inclusive sport.
