Try Tag Rugby, has had another record year, with around 11,000 players participating weekly in our leagues across the UK, with 40% of the players being female.
With over 50% of players having never touched a rugby ball before, Try Tag Rugby appeals not only to Rugby fans but a much wider audience. Most importantly, it’s a fun, social way to keep fit and meet new people!
Annie Hopkins who plays in Brighton says “10/10 Fun, friendly, lovely people 💃🏻
I am a complete beginner, I used to skive off PE at school, I’d never played any team sports at all so was very nervous but everyone was really lovely and went out of their way to get me involved and make me feel part of the match 💪🏻”
Alongside its growing player base, Try Tag Rugby has continued to expand around the UK in 2024, with new leagues successfully launched in Newcastle and York. An exciting development also saw Sheffield Eagles Foundation take over the licence for Try Tag Rugby South Yorkshire. This is the first time a Sporting Foundation has been awarded a licence, and a significant milestone for the sport’s development.
While there are now 16 locations around the UK where Try Tag Rugby Leagues operate, there are still lots of fantastic places without a league. This is something we want to change!
Try Tag Rugby is seeking passionate, driven individuals to start a licence in areas where we don’t yet operate. From Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Cambridge to many other locations across the UK, there are fantastic opportunities to build a thriving community of players.
Starting a licence is perfect for those who want to build something meaningful while maintaining the flexibility to fit it around other commitments. Whether you’re looking for a part-time project or the potential for a full-time business, you can start small as a side venture, and with the support of Try Tag Rugby’s comprehensive licence package – including full training and ongoing assistance – you’ll have everything you need to scale and grow.
Tag Rugby is about more than just the game itself. It’s about the incredible community it builds, the friendships that form, and the positive impact it has on people’s lives. Amy Swiggs, who only started playing in Newcastle this summer, says, “Joining TTR is the best decision I’ve made since moving to Newcastle! Fab bunch of people, super welcoming of all abilities. I’d always enjoyed watching rugby but not played before, & this league is so fab, I never felt out of place having not played before. Playing is so fun & made all the better by the socials that are organised after games & on the weekends!”. Operating a Try Tag Rugby licence allows you to see first hand how it becomes the highlight of many players’ weeks.
Experience managing a sports league or running a business isn’t required – just the passion and drive to bring people together and grow the game.
