Richmond Athletics Ground in London is the venue this Saturday (20th May) for the annual UK Tag Nationals – and the Our League cameras will be there to stream all the action.
The UK Tag Nationals attracts hundreds of players and spectators from around the country, bringing together teams from each of the nation’s TTR regions.
The UK Tag Nationals is an annual event which was first held in 2018. The competition took place outside of London for the very first-time last year, with regional sides enjoying a glorious day of sunshine in Leeds. Despite the home ground advantage for Yorkshire and some great performances from the regional teams, it was once again the London regions that took home the spoils. You can watch the top 10 tries from last years event here https://youtu.be/fKAQa3G1qnw.
This year, the competition returns to London and will see 44 teams from 12 regions competing across mixed, men’s, women’s and men’s over 40’s categories. Edinburgh North and Sheffield will be entering their own teams for the first time with Tag South Africa UK invitational teams also taking part in mixed open and men’s open categories at this year’s event.
Tournament Director Will Shepherd said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome all our teams and regional representatives to Richmond this Saturday. The addition of teams from Edinburgh North, Sheffield and Tag SA UK will add even more colour and passion to the event while once again securing such a high quality venue gives the players the opportunity to perform at their very best in an effort to become national champions. Good luck to all teams!”
Spectators are welcome to attend the free event to cheer any friends and family on throughout the day and you will also be able to watch all of the action from pitch 1 for free on live stream. The full streaming schedule can be found below. New to Tag Rugby?
Games at the UK Tag Nationals are played under International Rules meaning there are a few rule differences from the regular Try Tag Rugby leagues:
- 8-a-side teams. Mixed games see 4 female players and 4 male players on the pitch at a time.
- Use of bonus boxes behind the try line, scoring in these areas gives the scorer one additional point
- A 50:10 kicking rule applies, this sees the kicking team rewarded with a penalty tap and set of six tags if they execute a 50:10 kick, much along the lines of a 40:20 kick.
