Over the coming months, Try Tag Rugby and Great Britain Tag Rugby will be establishing Great Britain Tag Rugby as a standalone, not-for-profit organisation.
This is a natural next step in the sport’s evolution. Try Tag Rugby will continue to lead the way in growing participation through local leagues, new regions, and community initiatives, while Great Britain Tag Rugby will focus more specifically on high-performance, player development, and international competition.
As the sport matures, it’s vital that our structures mature with it. The community game and the international game both need dedicated attention. Creating a distinct organisation for Great Britain Tag Rugby allows us to build the governance, systems, and financial independence needed to support long-term high performance, while keeping alignment with the broader domestic pathway.
Governance and the Performance Advisory Group
A key part of this transition is the creation of a GB Performance Advisory Group (PAG), a small but skilled group of individuals who will guide the direction of the programme, support the coaching structure, and help ensure alignment between the community and elite levels.
The PAG will bring together experience from across sport, governance, and athlete development, providing informed oversight as we move toward incorporation and beyond. Their role will include shaping selection policies, performance standards, and long-term athlete development models.
In time, this group will evolve into the performance sub-committee of the new Great Britain Tag Rugby board, helping ensure the sport is guided by both strategic governance and on-field expertise.

What this means
The new organisation will be established as a company limited by guarantee, the same not-for-profit model used across most UK National Governing Bodies. This ensures every pound raised is reinvested back into the sport, directly benefiting players, coaches, referees, and the wider programme.
Key benefits include:
● Financial independence, as GB will operate with separate budgets, accounts, and reporting, separate to TTR.
● The ability to access grants, sponsorship, and external funding unavailable to private companies.
● The formation of a dedicated board of directors with expertise across governance, finance, high performance, and commercial partnerships.
● Clear accountability and transparency for all activities.
To maintain alignment, there will be a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between Try Tag Rugby and Great Britain Tag Rugby. This will outline how the two organisations collaborate on events, marketing, player pathways, and data sharing, ensuring the sport remains unified while allowing both sides to focus on their strengths.
The process and timeline
The formal incorporation process has begun, including governance setup and legal establishment.
The aim is to have Great Britain Tag Rugby established ahead of the next international cycle. In parallel, the Performance Advisory Group will begin work this autumn, supporting programme planning, coach recruitment, and athlete pathway development.
Looking ahead
Ultimately, this evolution is about future proofing the sport.
Try Tag Rugby will continue leading participation and community expansion, introducing thousands of new players to the sport every year. Great Britain Tag Rugby will focus on high level competition, building the structures and support systems that allow our national teams to perform and succeed on the world stage.
Together, the two organisations will form a complete ecosystem for the sport, from grassroots participation to international representation.
This change will strengthen the foundations of the sport in the UK. It will provide the structure, transparency, and expertise needed for long-term sustainability, while giving athletes and volunteers a clearer sense of purpose and belonging within the GB setup.
Over the coming months, we’ll share updates on the incorporation process, the PAG appointments, and opportunities for the community to contribute ideas and feedback.
This is an exciting step forward, one that positions Great Britain Tag Rugby for continued growth, professionalism, and success in the years ahead.
