Launched in May 2025, Try Tag Rugby Salford has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting new additions to the Try Tag Rugby family.
Led by Franchise owner Cam Green and supported by his wife Suzie, the pair have built a thriving community in just a few months. Both balance the franchise alongside demanding full-time careers, Cam works for the Civil Service and Suzie is a doctor, but their passion and commitment have seen their Salford league go from strength to strength.
Rapid Growth and Sold-Out Leagues
They got off to a strong start with 10 teams in their first season at the start of summer. This grew to 13 teams in their second season before further growth in their third, with them boasting a sold-out 16-team Autumn League with nearly 200 players.
The growth has been fuelled by a welcoming atmosphere, and the sense of fun that is a key part of every Try Tag Rugby community. Salford’s players come from all walks of life, with a large number having never picked up a rugby ball before. The fun, friendly, social vibe has quickly made Salford’s league nights one of the highlights of the week for its players.
Hannah who started playing in Summer said “I’m having the absolute best time playing every Thursday, it’s a really fun thing to do (even for someone as unfit and un-sporty as me!) everyone is so friendly and encouraging and I really look forward to playing each week.
Cam & the team go out of their way to support everyone and make sure you’re having a good time, it’s such a great thing to be part of I would definitely recommend it to everyone!!”
Building a Community On and Off the Pitch
Cam and Suzie have worked hard to ensure that the community extends to off the pitch as well as on it. The weekly post match socials have been fully embraced since the start, with great turn outs and player of the matches enjoying a free drink courtesy of the partner venues.
This Autumn’s post-match socials at The Egerton Inn are so good they have almost taken on a legendary status, with the venue laying on a free buffet for players each week. Enough to make some go as far as describing it as possibly “one of the best after-match Tag venues in the UK”.
It’s not just the weekly after match socials, Cam and Suzie are always looking for ways to add fun, from hosting regular end of season socials to themed rounds where players turn up in fancy dress such as the Halloween round!
“We’re Building Something Special Here in Salford”
Reflecting on their first few months, Cam Green, the Try Tag Rugby Salford owner said:
“The growth has been incredible, and we’re excited to see even more people get involved as the word spreads.
“We were hopeful for a strong start, but it has exceeded all expectations. It’s been a dream start.
“The credit goes to the amazing community that’s formed around the league. We’ve built a fun, welcoming space where new players feel right at home from day one.
“It’s suitable for all genders and fitness levels, and it’s a brilliant way to get active, meet new people, and be part of something fun and positive.
“We’re building something special here in Salford, and we’d love more people to join the journey.”
