TRY TAG RUGBY LAUNCHES SOCIAL LEAGUE IN BOURNEMOUTH
Try Tag Rugby is launching in Bournemouth, with its first social, mixed adult league kicking off on Monday 27th April.
Designed to be welcoming and accessible, more than half of Try Tag Rugby players have never played rugby before joining. In summer 2025, around 11,000 people played weekly across 33 Cities, Towns and Boroughs in the UK, with over 40% female participation. The format has become one of the UK’s fastest growing adult social sports, highlighting the demand for inclusive, community-focused activity.
The launch marks the first time the established national social league has been delivered in Bournemouth.
The new seven week league will take place at Meyrick Park, just a short walk from Bournemouth Town Centre. Registration is open to adults of all genders and abilities. The league welcomes both full teams and individual players, with individuals placed into teams.
Ahead of the first league, Free Taster Sessions will take place on 7th, 13th and 18th April, giving people the opportunity to Give Tag A Try in a relaxed and friendly environment before committing to the season.
The Bournemouth league is being launched by franchise owner Harry Pew, who first experienced Try Tag Rugby while living in Newcastle.
“I went along to a taster session not knowing anyone,” said Harry. “I wasn’t looking to play serious competitive rugby. I wanted to meet people and stay active. Within weeks it became the highlight of my week. It gave me an instant social circle. That’s what I want to build here in Bournemouth.”
Harry believes Bournemouth is particularly well suited to this type of social sport, with a strong population of young working professionals choosing to live and build their careers in the area.
“Many players join Try Tag Rugby because they’re looking for something active that fits around work and social life. Tag Rugby works because it lets you stay active while catching up with friends and meeting new people. It’s social first, which makes it really welcoming, and you don’t need any previous experience to feel comfortable from your first session.”
Alongside Bournemouth University’s student community, the town’s active coastal lifestyle and growing professional population make it a natural fit for mixed gender, minimal contact sport that prioritises inclusivity and connection.
Bournemouth is also home to the Bournemouth 7s Festival, attracting around 30,000 people each year and celebrating both sport and social connection. The new weekly league brings that same blend of energy and community to regular local sport, a format that has already helped Try Tag Rugby build thriving social leagues across the UK.
National Franchising Director Carl Duckels said: “Try Tag Rugby is built around bringing people together through fun, accessible sport. Bournemouth has all the ingredients for a thriving social league, from its active population to its growing professional and graduate community. We’re excited to see this new chapter get underway.”
Tag Rugby is a minimal contact version of the sport designed to be accessible to beginners and experienced players alike. Alongside weekly matches, players are encouraged to take part in the weekly post match socials, helping to build friendships on and off the pitch.
