TRY TAG RUGBY BRINGS ONE OF SCOTLAND’S FASTEST GROWING SOCIAL SPORTS TO GLASGOW
Try Tag Rugby is bringing one of Scotland’s fastest growing social sports to Glasgow with the launch of its new Glasgow South Franchise and the opening of registration for a brand new Glasgow League.
The expansion follows the rapid rise of Try Tag Rugby in Edinburgh, where the mixed-gender, minimal-contact game has grown significantly since launching in 2022. Last summer, 70 teams played weekly in the capital, representing around 840 players, with over 40% female participation.
The first eight-week, weekly league will start on Wednesday 6th May on the grass pitches at Glasgow Green, bringing fun, social sport to one of the city’s most iconic locations. Located close to the city centre and within easy reach of Merchant City, as well as the south side of the River Clyde via Kings Bridge and the Polmadie Footbridge, the venue provides a convenient and accessible home close to the heart of the city. The mixed adult league for people of all genders is open for registration to teams as well as individuals who will be placed on a team. A series of Free Taster Sessions will be taking place in the run up to the league on the 15th, 22nd and 25th April for people to Give Tag A Try!
Try Tag Rugby is one of the UK’s leading adult social sports organisations, providing high-quality Tag Rugby Leagues and events. Last summer, over 11,000 people played weekly across 33 Cities, Towns and Boroughs nationwide, including London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol.
Tag Rugby is a fun and inclusive minimal-contact social sport suitable for all adults. No previous rugby experience is necessary, making it a sport that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced players alike.
It’s also a great way to meet new people or catch up with existing friends. Each week, players can come together after their games to enjoy the post-match social with their teammates and opponents, building friendships on and off the pitch.
The Glasgow South Franchise will be run by Nathan Wray. Nathan previously played Try Tag Rugby in London before moving to Glasgow and is now bringing the sport to his new city.
Nathan said: “I’m really excited to launch Try Tag Rugby in Glasgow. I first experienced Try Tag Rugby while living in London and it quickly became the highlight of my week, keeping me active and helping me build lots of great friendships. Since moving to Glasgow, I’ve seen what a brilliant sporting city it is, with a rich and diverse culture and a fantastic social scene. It feels like the perfect fit given Try Tag Rugby’s focus on building a welcoming community focused on fun, friendships and making staying fit easy.”
Try Tag Rugby National Franchising Director, Carl Duckels said: “We’re delighted to welcome Nathan on board as the Try Tag Rugby Glasgow South franchisee. Having played in London, he understands exactly what makes Try Tag Rugby special from a player’s perspective. Glasgow is a city with an incredible sporting heritage and a strong sense of community, and we’ve already seen how successful Tag Rugby can be in Scotland through our growth in Edinburgh. We’re confident Nathan will build something equally special in Glasgow.”
