The 7th annual UK Tag Nationals took centre stage at Highfields Sports Complex on 17 May, bringing together a record breaking 61 teams from across the country for an unforgettable day of tag rugby action.

Despite a chilly start to the morning pool games, the sun soon made an appearance, setting the stage for an exhilarating day filled with skill and camaraderie.

This year’s event was packed with firsts. Newcastle Rockets and York Phantoms made their debut on the national stage, entering teams into the Mixed Open division. Meanwhile, the Coventry & Warwickshire Paladins made history by reaching their first Final in the Women’s 34s category – a landmark moment that reflects the sport’s exciting growth across the regions.

2025 also marked the launch of the UK Tag Nationals Champions Trophy, a new award recognising the region that delivered the three strongest performances across the tournament. The added dimension of regional pride introduced a fresh intensity to an already high stakes competition.

As results unfolded across the categories, the battle for the trophy remained wide open. It all came down to the Mixed Open Final, where the outcome would decide not just the category winner, but also the region crowned overall champions. In a game thick with tension and determined play, the South London Seals edged past the East London Eels with a hard fought 3–2 victory. That single result sealed both the Mixed Open title and the UK Tag Nationals Champions Trophy for South London – a dramatic end to a closely contested day.

Try Tag Rugby extends its heartfelt thanks to all players, coaches, Regional Managers, referees, staff, and partners who contributed to making the 2025 Nationals such a resounding success. Their dedication has made this celebration of community and competition possible.
